Wasatch Cooperative Market

Your Local Grocery Co-op

Welcome to the Co-op!

We're organizing Salt Lake City's (and Utah's) only consumer-owned cooperative grocery market! We hope you've found this website because you want to get involved, become a Founding Member-Owner, and lend your time and/or skills to the development process.

Salt Lake City's citizens love their Downtown Farmers Market, and it's no wonder. It began in 1992 and in 2009 won third place in the first ever America's Favorite Farmers MarketsTM contest sponsored by the American Farmland Trust. Today there are over 250 vendors offering locally produced food, crafts, and other products. Our appetite for local, fresh and organic food has grown right along with the farmers market. How many times have you wished you could hit the farmers market for a fresh bunch of greens on your own schedule? How many times have you had to miss the market because of other Saturday-morning or Tuesday evening obligations, or--let's face it--because you just didn't want to deal with the crowd? How many times have you bought asparagus or kale or strawberries flown in from Chile, because there weren't any other options?

Our appetite and desire for fresh, local food has outgrown the twice-a-week seasonal market. We need a place to find fresh, local food for our families every day, whether it's a Wednesday in July or one in the middle of December.

The Wasatch Cooperative Market will be that place. Modeled after co-ops in cities like Seattle, WA, Burlington, VT, Ashland, OR, and others, the Wasatch Cooperative Market will be like any other grocery store: big and bright, with convenient hours and everything you need under one roof. But unlike any other grocery store this one is a true product of its community. Its focus is local. It aims to be a conduit for local product from local producers. It is truly locally owned, because each of its Member-Owners is a Utahn who believes we deserve local, fresh, sustainable food whenever available.

Board Meetings

With some exceptions, our meetings are open to member-owners. Due to the frequency of meetings needed during the development of the co-op, we meet quite often and sometimes irregularly. If you are a member-owner and want to attend a meeting, please contact us for specific info.
